We are pleased to announce that the next Ontario Turfgrass Symposium will be held at the University of Guelph's Rozanski Hall on February 22 and 23, 2017! If you are a turfgrass manager in sports turf, golf, sod production or lawncare, this educational event is for you! Come earn your CEC's and network with your industry colleagues!
In the last update, it was noted that site development had commenced with site surveying and installation of silt and tree protection fencing. With the excellent weather conditions this fall, crews are near completion of the major earthmoving operations to facilitate drainage and research plot construction.

Transitions in Turf at Sports Turf Canada
The Guelph Turfgrass Institute (GTI) will soon have a new home in the Arboretum.
Friends, Our Diploma in Turfgrass Management students are once again hosting the annual Turfgrass Management Golf Tournament next Friday, September 30th!
This year's event tees off at 1:00PM on the 30th at Victoria Park Valley Golf Club in Puslinch, ON, and includes 18 holes of golf in a shotgun format scramble, powercart, and dinner to follow the round!
If you are in the Guelph area Friday August 19 (Noon-8PM) and Saturday August 20 (9:00AM-3:00PM) come out and see the 2016 trial gardens at the GTI! Rodger Tschanz (Department of Plant Agriculture) has put together a great flyer about the event that we would like to share with you! On Tuesday, July 5th the City of Guelph enacted the Level 2 Red restriction for residential water use. Home lawn watering is under a complete ban under Level 2 Red conditions. A benefit of natural turfgrass lawns as residential ground cover is that it they can be left to go dormant in the summer months and require no water for survival.
The Department of Plant Agriculture has announced some exciting new changes to the leadership of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute (GTI) and the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management Program (ADTM).
Jordan Constant was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent his early childhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Taylor Wallace began her post-secondary education at Mohawk College in the Environmental Technician Program. Nearing the end of her program at Mohawk, Taylor desired to expand her post-secondary education even further, and enrolled in the Environmental Science program at the University of Guelph (U of G).
Sara Stricker first attended the University of Guelph (UofG) with the goal of becoming a Veterinarian. A third year plant pathology course, and a related summer employment opportunity with Dr. Greg Boland piqued her interest in this vastly different field.
Dylan Harding grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Despite his urban childhood environment, Dylan explains that he has been fascinated by agriculture from a very young age. His passion for agriculture blossomed after high school when he entered a job working at an organic farm in Nova Scotia.
Jayson Jackson is a passionate international student in his final semester of the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management (ADTM) program here at the University of Guelph (UofG). Jayson hails from Bermuda where he is a very involved member of the turfgrass industry.
Like many Canadian kids, Steve Rabski had childhood aspirations of playing hockey and baseball. At the young age of 14, Steve began his career in the golf industry! He was responsible for collecting garbage and raking bunkers at Twin Stacks Golf Club in Coniston, ON, just outside his hometown of Sudbury.
Background
Lucas Andrews arrived in Guelph on the cold evening of January 31, 2016 – quite a change in temperature from Pointe Vedra Beach, Florida where he currently resides and works! Lucas is an Associate Diploma in Turfgrass (ADTM) 2010 graduate. Since his time at the University of Guelph he has had many huge successes in the golf industry, all while still in his twenties!
Lucas Andrews started his career in the golf industry at Predator Ridge Resort in Vernon, B.C. Lucas thoroughly enjoyed his experience at the golf course and enrolled in the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management (ADTM) program at the University of Guelph.
