Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management (DTM)

The Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management (DTM) is Canada's premier turfgrass management program and features a focused curriculum that provides students with the skills to succeed in this competitive industry. This two-year program utilizes the collaborative resources of the University of Guelph and the Guelph Turfgrass Institute, which includes greenhouses, labs, faculty and staff, and the grounds, workshop and laboratory facilities of the GTI. Practical and scientific study is combined with a required work placement to provide students with a wide range of experience and knowledge. The Diploma in Turfgrass Management prepares students for a variety of career opportunities including golf course management, lawn care, sports field management, parks management, sod production, and related supply and service businesses.

The Turf Managers' Short Course (TMSC) Certificate
4-week certificate in turfgrass management program
The TMSC is Canada's most successful certificate in turfgrass management. This 4 week program has over 50 years of educating and preparing a broad range of students of all age groups, experience levels and industry sectors. This certification is recognized by most major turf professional associations and has become world renowned for its quick but thorough educational curriculum. If you are interested in the program, we suggest you inquire about registration ASAP as it tends to fill up quickly each year.

Turfgrass Systems Management (TSM) Certificate
Online learning (asynchronous) certificate
The Turfgrass Systems Management Certificate equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to manage and maintain healthy, sustainable turfgrass systems across diverse environments such as golf courses, sports fields, parks, and landscaped spaces. Through courses in turf and weed identification, integrated pest and disease management, irrigation design and troubleshooting, and best practices in cultural maintenance, learners develop the ability to make informed, site-specific decisions. With an emphasis on ecological awareness and regulatory compliance, the program prepares both current professionals and those entering the industry to balance turf performance, quality, and sustainability. The certificate consists of five online asynchronous courses, each running 12 weeks and totalling 36 contact hours. The certificate can be completed in as little as one year, with flexible pacing allowing up to five years, and intakes available in January, May, or September.

Degree Programs
4-year degree on Guelph campus
The B.Sc. degree program is an honours science program designed to provide a fundamental education in the science of agriculture and plant production. The degree offers two majors that may be of interest to those pursuing careers in turfgrass: Crop Science and Horticulture. The curriculum includes courses in agricultural, physical, biological, and social sciences.
