"Humility, Essential for Teambuilding"
The Guelph Turfgrass Institute and the University of Guelph’s Diploma in Turfgrass Management Program are proud to announce the 2018 Superintendent in Residence, Dean Graves. Dean has been the Superintendent at Chevy Chase Golf Club in Maryland for the past 18 years. Under Graves’ leadership, Chevy Chase Club underwent a $6.5 million restoration and grown-in; a significant facility upgrade that restored the classic property which was founded in 1892. Prior to Chevy Chase Club, Graves served as the Golf Course Manager at Bethesda Country Club from 1989 to 2000 where he hosted tournaments such as the Greater Washington Open (1989) and the Mazda LPGA Championships (1990-1994). Graves also championed a major $3.8 million restoration at Bethesda Country Club during his tenure at the property.
Dean is well known and respected by staff, work associates and peers for his tremendous leadership style which fosters an inclusive culture of good communication, staff motivation, and mentoring. Dean received his Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences from The University of Delaware (1979) and later took the Turf Management Degree at Pennsylvania State University (1981). We are honoured to have Dean as our 2018 Superintendent in Residence and hope you will be able to join us for the presentation.
