COVID-19 and U of G Update

Apologies for the delayed update on the grow-in and essentially the completion of phase 1 of the GTI. There have been many new projects and initiatives created this year and keeping up with them has been a challenge.
Last Monday (August 27th) marked the first day of the grow-in at the new site of the GTI. It goes without saying that this was a very exciting milestone for this project, the GTI team, our current donors and the various industry stakeholders and partners that make up our unique institution.
The commonly used fungicide, chlorothalonil, found in a large variety of turf fungicides, has been undergoing review by the Canadian Government.
On May 3rd 2018, The CGSA put out a press release announcing that May 29th will be henceforth known as "National Golf Day". In partnership with Golf Canada, PGA of Canada, the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada (NGCOA), and the Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM), the movement will take place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for two days (May 29th and May 30th).

Twelve Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management students recently traveled to Orlando, Florida and represented the University of Guelph, Department of Plant Agriculture and Ontario Agricultural College at the annual Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Turf Bowl, hosted at the annual Golf Industry Show.

In the last update, it was noted that site development had commenced with site surveying and installation of silt and tree protection fencing. With the excellent weather conditions this fall, crews are near completion of the major earthmoving operations to facilitate drainage and research plot construction.
