#GCUtweetup23 contest by Aquatrols and Golf Course Industry Magazine

Golf Course Industry Magazine and Aquatrols have been presenting awards to members of the turfgrass industry for over a decade. This year marks the 12th annual #GCITweetUp awards.

Nominations to the TweetUp Awards were collected in December 2022 and on Jan 18th it was announced that the Guelph Turfgrass Institute was selected for the Best Overall Use of Social Media Award for 2023! This award honours individuals and organizations who use social media to demonstrate leadership, inspire co-workers and colleagues, share ideas, and creatively communication messages to their online audiences. The winners of the #GCITweetUp23 will be recognized in an awards ceremony on Feb 8, 2023 at the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, Florida.

This award is in part thanks to our Communications and Outreach Coordinator, Dr. Sara Stricker. Sara joined us in June 2021 and has since been actively increasing engagement on several social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and our new podcast Canadian Turf Talks [1]. In addition to increasing the posting frequency, Sara has added some personal flair to the GTI's online presence, which has been noticed and appreciated by many of our online followers. According to Micah Woods's analysis [2] of #TurfTwitter engagement, the GTI's Twitter account has risen from ranking 276th in 2021 to 124th in 2022, a significant improvement which is due to retweets, tweet creation rate, mentions, and followers. We encourage you to reach out to Sara on Twitter (@SaraMStricker [3]) or email her directly at GTI@uoguelph.ca to send her your congratulations for a well-deserved award.
